A UHI student is aiming to set a World Record for the amount of tyre flips completed by a woman.

Rachael Routledge, from Lhanbryde, will try to flip a 123kg tyre 100 times within one hour this Sunday.

The 39-year-old says she hopes the challenge will help change stereotypical perceptions on women's fitness and demonstrate the importance of being "fit and strong".

She's been practising at the Moray Sports Centre, which is also where she will be trying to set the new record.

Rachael did try the activity around five years ago, but has only started training for this challenge recently.

She said: "It was around about November time, and I just happened to look out of the window and saw there was a big tyre outside.

"We went out and had a look, we were trying to guess the weight at that point and it just stemmed from there.

"When the gyms went back into lockdown and they all had to be closed, it was about finding a way of keeping warm outside, and the tyre was really useful for that.

"I’m confident, but I’m obviously nervous because it doesn’t matter how many hours you put in the gym, if you don’t deliver on the day, then you’re not going to get it.

"For my age group to be able to smash something like this would be brilliant.

"It would really bring home my message that you really are capable of anything if you put your mind to it.

"Age is just a number.

"I want to prove there’s greater things to aspire to than losing weight or trying to fit into a size 8.

"I just want to put across to women that you don’t always have to look like that or feel like that.

"If you are a size 8, that’s brilliant, but we’re not all like that.

"It’s not all just about the smaller dress sizes being fit and strong and healthy is more important than anything else. "
