Robbie Williams has shocked fans by quitting social media, with his social accounts reportedly now looked after by his team, while he fulfills his role as a judge on The X Factor.

The pop star, who has previously battled depression and anxiety, explained how removing himself from Twitter and other social media platforms would protect his mental wellbeing.

The former Take That singer has revealed that he decided to leave social media because he fears backlash over his opinions on this year’s series of The X Factor, where he is a judge. Robbie Williams explained how the "love is massive" on social media, however, "hate can make you feel like the world is crashing in."

Now take a look at Take That through the years:

Robbie was announced as a judge on The X Factor, alongside his wife Ayda Williams, One Direction star Louis Tomlinson and returning judge Simon Cowell, back in the summer. Shortly after his involvement was confirmed, he spoke to Lorraine Kelly revealing why he chose to be a judge saying, "Genuinely it was the Ayda card. You know, I thought about doing it often but I have been really busy with my own career.

"Then Ayda got a call in the car from Nigel the producer of the show and said, 'Do you think Rob will do it if you do it too?' And instantly, I was like that makes complete sense - I’m totally in.

"Do you know the amazing thing is since starting to do the show - I can’t believe I haven’t done it before!"

We're now well into the current series of The X Factor, as the Judges' Houses continues. And Robbie Williams has enlisted the help from comedian and Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams.

Scarlett opened up about online trolls when she appeared on today's (Monday 8th October) episode of Lorraine. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, she said, "It's so nasty. They would shout at me in the street, and say stuff online. Picking on my appearance. I can’t work it out, I’ve not been brought up that way!"

The X Factor continues next weekend.
