The 2020 Celebrate Aberdeen parade will take place on Saturday, August 29th.

The event, which began in 2011, recognises and celebrates the enormous contribution that charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises make to the lives of countless people from across Aberdeen City and Shire.

Supported by Northsound 1, Jeff and Lauren will once again be meeting paraders while covering the event live on-air.

Last year, more than 4,000 paraders representing 130 organisations took part in the event with thousands more spectators lining Aberdeen’s Union Street to watch the parade make its way from Holburn Junction to Queen Street.

Registration for the event will open on February 1st and the organisers are hoping this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before. In addition to third sector organisations, the parade also features cultural organisations, youth groups, sports clubs and music, dance and entertainment groups.

"It’s an amazing sight to see the length of Union Street filled with colour and activity as people get together to recognise the fantastic work which the third sector does for all of us"

Celebrate Aberdeen has continued to flourish and grow since it began, and the parade now headlines a weekend of activities featuring live music and entertainment at venues across the city centre. In 2018, Celebrate Aberdeen launched the first Celebrate Aberdeen Awards, an event which shines a light on organisations and individuals that make an outstanding contribution to our society.

The Celebrate Aberdeen events are organised and run entirely by volunteers and planning for the 2020 events began at the end of last year.

“The atmosphere at last year’s parade was fantastic,” said Celebrate Aberdeen founder Morven Mackenzie. “It’s an amazing sight to see the length of Union Street filled with colour and activity as people get together to recognise the fantastic work which the third sector does for all of us. The scope and diversity of parading organisations which take part is fascinating and we appreciate and celebrate every single one of them.

“Now that the date has been confirmed, planning and preparation is stepping up a gear. A huge amount of work is done by a relatively small team of volunteers who gives hours and hours of their own time to make this happen.

“In addition to the volunteers however these events simply would not happen were it not for the generosity of the business community who support and sponsor us is so many ways and I’d be delighted to hear from anyone who’d be interested in getting involved this year.”
