Every week through the summer we’re featuring five local events, perfect to for the family.

SCOTTISH TRADITIONAL BOAT FESTIVAL

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival returns to Portsoy this Saturday and Sunday, celebrating its 30th anniversary!

Expect a weekend of heritage boats, storytelling, kids' activities, food and drink, and music and dance in the historic port of Portsoy.

The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, plus Friday night entertainment from Skerryvore.

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, Princess Anne will officially open the festival on Saturday.

STONEHAVEN OUTDOOR POOL

Looking for something a little different this weekend? Why not try the outdoor pool in Stonehaven.

Their early season timetable is in operation with activities across the week, including live music, inflatables, aqua Zumba and more.

Opened in 1934, Stonehaven Open Air Pool is the UK's only art deco Olympic-sized seawater lido with heated water.

This weekend includes a live music session plus splash songs and story sessions for babies and toddlers.

STEAM TRAIN RIDES

Enjoy a ride on a classic stream train this weekend at the Royal Deeside Railway. The summer timetable begins this weekend with steam trains running on Sunday.

Trains depart from the station at Milton of Crathes on the hour, every hour from 11 am until 4 pm.

RACE FOR LIFE

Race for Life for Cancer Research returns to Aberdeen this Sunday with 5k and 10k events at Kings Links.

Both routes start and end at Kings Links, next to the Lynx Ice Arena, and take in the beach esplanade.

Take part or cheer on those taking part in the events, raising money for life-saving cancer research.

DREAM NIGHT AT CODONAS

Aberdeen-based charity, We Too!, and Codonas are teaming up to deliver the first ‘Dream Night’ for children with disabilities this Sunday.

This exclusive evening at the outdoor funfair is specifically designed for children with disabilities and their families. With reduced numbers to ensure it’s not too busy and no music to allow a quieter experience, families can enjoy the funfair without the usual crowds and noise.

Dream Night will run from 6.30 pm until 8 pm on Sunday and allows access to all the outdoor rides in the park.
