Lee McAllister revealed the plans for an £8 million pound centre which he hopes to open by the end of the year.

The boxer, who has won 12 professional titles, has been planning the centre for the last 18 months and plans to fundraise a significant chunk of the money.

Northsound News spoke to Lee McAllister, he said: 'I was inspired by one specific incident. 'I saw a kid with down syndrome and he was getting picked on. He was cowering away and his carers were trying to hide him, block him from those kids with their chairs. 'I stood up for him. And then I started doing some digging, seeing if there are any facilities for them, and there was nothing. So I'm providing those facilities. 'I would rather they enjoyed life through sport and health and fitness and nutrition. Through badminton or basketball, whatever they want. I just want them to enjoy their life.' The Centre has received backing from a number of high profile figures from around the North East including, Former Footballer Jim leighton, Golfer paul lawrie, Wrestler turned Councillor Len Ironside. Blueprints will be sent to the city planners in the next few week
