Aberdeen leisure centre shut down after girl 'in trouble' in pool

She was taken to hospital and inquiries are continuing

An Aberdeen Leisure Centre has been shut down after a major incident last night.

Police and ambulance services rushed to the Get Active @ Northfield facility around 8 after reports of a girl getting into difficulties in the swimming pool.

She was taken to hospital. Officers say inquiries are on-going as the centre remains closed.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 19:56 on Monday 12 February to attend an incident at Kettlehills Crescent, Aberdeen.

"One ambulance and two special operation response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene. One patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”

Sport Aberdeen, who operate Get Active @ Northfield, say the facility will be closed until further notice whilst enquiries are carried out.

A spokesperson said: “Sport Aberdeen is working closely with the relevant authorities following an incident at Northfield Swimming Pool on the evening of Monday, 12 February, 2024.

"Enquiries are ongoing and the venue remains closed until further notice.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 8pm on Monday, 12 February, 2024, police were made aware a young female had got into difficulty in a swimming pool in Aberdeen.

“Emergency services attended and she was taken to hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”
