Aberdeen low emission zone signage to be installed

Signage for the new low emission zone (LEZ) in Aberdeen is to be installed on Thursday.
The Scotland-wide programme is being introduced in the country's four largest cities including Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
LEZ was introduced in Aberdeen in 2022 with a two year ’grace’ period which ends on 1 June 2024.
The aim of the low emission zone is to reduce air pollution in city centres caused by road traffic.
Work will also begin on installing cameras on the boundary of the zone within the coming weeks however, drivers will not be charged until the grace period ends.
Is you car LEZ compliant?
Motorists can now check if their vehicle is compliant with the LEZ requirements by entering their registration number on the official LEZ website.
Cars facing a £60 fine for entering the low emission zone include generally petrol vehicles older than 2006 and diesel cars older than 2015.
Blue badge holders are exempt - they must register their details with the LEZ exemption system.
Other exempt vehicles include motorbikes and mopeds.
Households and micro-businesses can apply for a cash grant to help assist in the change from a non-compliant vehicle.
Aberdeen City Council say the LEZ will help the city reach its climate change targets by "reducing our road transport’s contribution to emissions and prioritising active and sustainable transport movement".
