An Aberdeenshire grandad has been told he can return home from Dubai after facing trespass charges.

Ian MacKellar was trying to help his 18 month-old granddaughter sleep when he challenged neighbours for being too noisy.

After an altercation, the 74 year-old told his daughter he was going to call the police, but trespass charges were filed against him.

Instead of prison, Ian has received a £650 fine and his travel ban has been lifted.

In a statement, the Government of Dubai Media Office said: "Dubai Public Prosecution today confirmed that an expedited ruling was issued by the emirates One Day Court in the case involving British national Ian Mackellar.

"After consideration of the charges of trespassing and verbal assault, the court imposed a fine of £650."
