Wood Group said it will create 150 new jobs after securing a BP contract worth almost half a billion pounds.

The Aberdeen-based company's five-year deal covers six offshore installations, the Forties pipeline system and onshore facilities at Grangemouth.

The £478 million contract will create 150 new posts and secure more than 700 current positions from January, Wood Group said.

Dave Stewart, UK managing director of Wood Group PSN, said: Wood Group has more than 40 years of experience working with BP globally and this new contract is testament to the partnership and understanding we have developed.''

The business founded by Sir Ian Wood currently employs about 40,000 people across more than 50 countries.

Sir Ian, who stepped down as chairman in 2012, recently led a review into the future of UK offshore oil and gas recovery.
