Inverurie hit in latest flooding

More flooding has hit the North East, with a number of homes evacuated in Aberdeenshire.

Families in the Port Elphinstone area of Invururie had to flee their homes last night when the River Don burst its banks.

A rest centre has been opened Inverurie Academy to look after anyone affected - and thousands of sandbags are being made available.

Kintore's also been hit and one property there's been evacuated.

Earlier yesterday Aboyne was flooded, and residents of the Bonty Court Sheltered Housing complex and Allachburn Care Home had to be taken to safety.

In Maryculter the Deeside Caravan Park has ended up underwater for the second time in a week.

Locals in Ballater are still battling to save their homes - a sandbag barrier has been built along the western edge of the town.

And concerns are growing for the historic Abergeldie Castle, which is now just inches from the swollen River Dee.

But the phones are now connected again in Braemar and Crathie, after lifeboat volunteers fired rockets carrying telephone lines 60 metres across the river.

Across the north east a number of roads are closed - including the A93 at Crathie which collapsed during Storm Frank.

And the forecast today is for more rain - so there could be more flooding to come.
