Micky in the Morning was live from the North-east’s happiest street this week to knock on the doors of the residents who raised over £3,000 for Northsound Cash for Kids.

Northsound 1’s Happy Street set out to find the North-east’s happiest street, not the nicest or the best, the happiest.

The search for the happiest street began after we conducted a survey across the North-east which revealed that over 85% of us believe that community spirit is really important in 2016.

What does community spirit look like nowadays?

…of the 4000 of us surveyed…

  • Over 70% of people said that talking to their neighbours keeps their community spirit alive. - Well over half said that they wouldn’t think twice before taking in parcels for their neighbours. - Bringing in neighbour’s bins also ranked highly with almost half of us in the North-east saying we regularly did it. - The survey also reveals streets with less than 20 houses are likely to have great community spirit, and those who live in bungalows demonstrate the highest levels of community spirit – with over half - 53% saying they believed there was a strong community spirit on their street!

Communities from Portlethen, Stonehaven, Torry and Turriff were shortlisted to vie for the title of north-east Scotland’s happiest street. The four community groups have spent the last few weeks fundraising for Northsound Cash for Kids… together raising over £6,000.

But who raised the most? We were live on their street to reveal the news.

Congratulations to the residents and families of Malcolm’s Way in Stonehaven who raised a staggering £3243.18 and have been crowned the North-east’s Happiest Street!

Malcolm’s Way will now receive will receive an action-packed street party on Sunday, 21 August. North-east entertainer Lisa Lollipop, magician Gary Seagraves and the team from Aberdeen Streetsports will be on hand to provide lots of activities for all ages.
