Crathes Castle is said to be haunted by the 'Green lady', a spirit that even Queen Victoria is reported to have seen. Renovation works during the 18th century uncovered the bones of a woman and child within a castle fireplace. Theories say that the remains are that of a servant who'd fallen pregnant to a member of the Burnett family, the then tenants of the castle. Mother and baby were killed to protect the family's reputation.
