There were dramatic scenes in Fife this evening.

The Amazon depot in Dunfermline was evacuated, and surrounding roads cordoned off, following the discovery of a suspicious package.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 5.30pm on Sunday.

Police called in bomb disposal experts, who gave the package the all-clear.

Fire and ambulance teams were put on standby outside the warehouse, which employs around 1000 people.

Workers arriving for night-shift were sent home, and local bus services were diverted.

But, three hours after the alarm was raised, the roads have now reopened.

The centre distributes Amazon packages across Scotland and the North of England but it's unclear whether deliveries will be affected.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.30pm police received a report of a suspicious package found within the Amazon depot in Dunfermline.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the building has been evacuated, and a cordon put in place.

"EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit) will attend to inspect the package and enquiries are ongoing."

An Amazon spokesperson said: “Safety is our top priority.

"Out of an abundance of caution we evacuated the building for a short period earlier today.”
