Bruce Springsteen writes new E Street Band album and plans tour
Bruce Springsteen has penned a series of songs for a new E Street Band record that will pave the way for a tour.
The Boss took part in a Q&A with legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese at a Netflix event in Los Angeles on Sunday to promote the 'Springsteen on Broadway' film when he shared the exciting news.
“I’ve spent about seven years without writing anything for the E Street Band,” Bruce explained to the director. “I couldn’t write anything for the band. And I said, ‘Well, of course … you’ll never be able to do that again!’ And it’s a trick every time you do it, you know? But it’s a trick that, because of that fact that you can’t explain, cannot be self-consciously duplicated. It has to come to you in inspiration.”
He added: “And then about a month or so ago, I wrote almost an album’s worth of material for the band. And it came out of just… I mean, I know where it came from, but at the same time, it just came out of almost nowhere. And it was good, you know.
“I had about two weeks of those little daily visitations, and it was so nice. It makes you so happy. You go, ‘F, I’m not fed, all right? There’ll be another tour!”
The news of a fresh E Street Band record comes just weeks after Bruce Springsteen detailed his new solo album ‘Western Stars’, which is released on Friday 14th June and features the lead single ‘Hello Sunshine’.
Bruce’s 2012’s album ‘Wrecking Ball’ only featured select members of the E Street Band, and they haven’t been his main band on an album since 2009’s ‘Working on a Dream’.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band haven’t been on the road together since The River Tour concluded at the Mount Smart Stadium in New Zealand back in February 2017.
In related Bruce Springsteen/E Street Band news, The Boss made a surprise appearance at Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul’s gig at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday night.
Guesting on stage during the encore, Bruce sang vocals on ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out’, ‘Sun City’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Go Home’ with Steven Van Zandt and co.
