Dee Snider starstruck meeting his musical heroes Slade’s Dave Hill and Don Powell
Former Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has waxed lyrical about meeting two of his musical heroes - Slade’s Dave Hill and Don Powell.
Dee randomly bumped into Dave and Don at Oslo Airport earlier this month where, according to donpowellofficial.com, he was “raving and so pleased to see them.” He also said what “a massive Slade fan he was."
After a Slade fan site shared the photo of the encounter, Dee tweeted on Tuesday: “They say you should never meet your heroes. I did...and I was NOT disappointed! Thanks Don and Dave!”
Heaping praise on Slade, he added: “Some of the greatest, catchiest songs of all time! And Noddy's voice! Without Slade there is no "We're Not Gonna Take It"!”

Asked about his biggest influences in 2016, Dee told Fox News: “Songwriting-wise, I’ve really got to go with Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, and — very important — Slade. If not for the band Slade, there would be no ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It.’”
He continued: “It’s little known, but they wrote ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’ and ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’, those two Quiet Riot hits. They were a big inspiration. I mean, they inspired a lot of bands — bands like KISS, Cheap Trick, Quiet Riot, and Twisted Sister. Without Slade, there wouldn’t be those bands.”
Despite being one of the biggest bands of the seventies in the UK scoring 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number one on the singles chart together with two number one albums, Slade failed to replicate this success stateside.
Their only minor breakthrough on the other side of the pond came with the US and Canada only release ‘Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply’ – a repackaged version of ‘The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome’ – that dented the charts at no.33 and spawned the Top 40 singles ‘My Oh My’ and ‘Run Runaway’.
The current incarnation of Slade features sole constant members Dave Hill (guitars) and Don Powell (drums) alongside vocalist/guitarist Mal McNulty and bassist John Berry.
Meanwhile, Dee Snider releases his brand-new solo album ‘For The Love of Metal’ tomorrow (Friday 27th July).
