Europe's 'The Final Countdown' passes 1 billion YouTube views
The band are "super thrilled" with the milestone

Swedish hard rock icons Europe say they’re “super thrilled” after the video for their 1986 anthem ‘The Final Countdown’ passed 1 billion YouTube views today (1st June).
Uploaded to YouTube 12-and-a-half years ago, ‘The Final Countdown’ hit the 10-figure landmark just days after Europe wrapped up their UK arena tour as special guests to Whitesnake and Foreigner.
“Unbelievable! One Billion Views! You can’t really make these things up,” Europe’s Joey Tempest, John Norum, John Leven, Mic Michaeli and Ian Haugland said in a statement.
“We’re just five musicians from the suburbs of Stockholm. So lucky to still have the success in the rock world and now something like this. It’s awesome to say the least.
“Thanks so much to everyone out there who has enjoyed The Final Countdown song and video! We’re sure we have annoyed a few people along the way as well with this song : ) In any case we are super thrilled!”
The opening track and title track of their third studio album, ‘The Final Countdown’ was written by Joey Tempest and it was a huge Number 1 hit the UK and in dozens of countries around the world.
Europe regularly perform ‘The Final Countdown’ as the final track at their live shows.
This YouTube achievement comes as Europe are set to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2023. To mark these momentous milestones the band will embark on a full European tour, with the dates to be announced.
Prior to their 40th anniversary tour in 2023, Europe will headline Steelhouse Festival on Sunday 31st July 2022.
