Brother of Angus and Malcolm, George Young co-produced many of AC/DC's albums including Let There Be Rock, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, T.N.T, Powerage and High Voltage. He first found international success in the 1960s as rhythm guitarist with The Easybeats, for whom he co-wrote hits Friday On My Mind and Love Is In The Air.

In the early 1970s, Young and fellow Easybeats guitarist Harry Vanda went on to form Marcus Hook Roll Band, a studio-based group which also featured Angus and Malcom Young, prior to the formation of AC/DC.

AC/DC announced the sad news in a statement on their website and Facebook page early this morning (23rd October), in which they called George their "beloved brother and mentor" and said that "without his help and guidance there would not have been an AC/DC."
