Ian Anderson has rescheduled Jethro Tull’s autumn 2020 trek The Prog Years Tour for September 2021.

The tour will now open at Bath’s The Forum on Friday 17th September 2021 and call in at Reading, Aylesbury, Leicester, Brighton, London, Poole, Perth, Glasgow and Stoke-on-Trent before culminating at Blackburn King George’s Hall on Thursday 30th September.

All original tickets remain valid and those who can are being urged to hold onto their tickets to support the live music scene.

A statement reads: “We are sorry to announce that the Jethro Tull - The Prog Years UK tour in 2020 will be postponed to September 2021.

“Due to the current uncertainty of putting on large events in the UK, we feel that the responsible and safest option for our fans, band and crew is to reschedule all 11 of these shows to a much later date when we hope it should be without serious health risk for everyone to enjoy the concerts.

“All tickets will remain valid for the new dates and we encourage you to hold on to these in support of your local venues who are also experiencing ongoing financial struggles in this difficult time.”

The tour will draw heavily on material from Jethro Tull’s more ‘prog’ albums, much of it focussing on the early ‘heavy hitters’ of the Tull catalogue, classic albums including ‘Stand Up’, ‘Benefit’, ‘Aqualung’, ‘Thick As A Brick’, ‘Passion Play’ and even a touch of ‘Thick As A Brick 2’ from 2012.

In a candid interview with US TV host Dan Rather earlier this month, Ian Anderson revealed he’s suffering from an incurable lung disease called COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Two days later he clarified some of the comments he made by writing on Facebook: “Thanks for your concern but no worries about my diagnosed COPD and asthma.

“I have had 14 months with no infections and no bronchitis so last year was the first since my twenties when I didn’t get sick at all. The conditions I have are early-stage and I plan to keep them that way.”

Ian also explained that when he said his “days are numbered”, he meant as a singer, not days to live.
