Jimi Hendrix fans can now take a virtual tour around the rock legend’s former London home.

From Saturday 4th July, the UK government allowed many museums to reopen their doors to the public, however the Handel & Hendrix museum in London is remaining shut for the time being to ensure it’s a safe environment for visitors, volunteers and staff.

Although Jimi Hendrix fans won’t be able to visit for a while, the Handel & Hendrix museum has this week launched a 3D, 360° virtual tour of the museum so you can have a look around from the comfort of your homes.

The interactive tour features every room in the museum and a plethora of facts about items within Jimi Hendrix’s flat. Alongside this, you can also tour the home where legendary composer George Frideric Handel lived in the 18th Century.

Jimi Hendrix moved into the flat on the upper floors of 23 Brook Street with his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham in the summer of 1968 and referred to it as “my first real home of my own.”

After touring the US in the latter part of 1968, he returned to Brook Street in January 1969 and lived there for three further months.

Jimi Hendrix’s flat at 23 Brook Street opened to the public for the first time in February 2016, and Planet Rock marked the occasion by hosting an outside broadcast at the apartment featuring songs from Hendrix’s record collection, as well as some of the greatest tracks from his fabled back catalogue.

During the broadcast Wyatt spoke to guests who knew Jimi, including Kathy Etchingham and rock photographer Barrie Wentzell.

The programme also contained archive interviews with the likes of Jimi's brother Leon, Brian May, Tony Iommi, Gary Moore, Geezer Butler and Lemmy, who famously was a roadie for Jimi Hendrix.

Two years later in June 2018, we hosted a Planet Rock Live Session at the Hendrix flat with Zakk Wylde, who performed rousing acoustic versions of Black Label Society’s ‘The Day That Heaven Had Gone Away’, ‘Room of Nightmares’ and ‘Nothing Left to Say’.
