Based on the "Freedom" marching cadence, the haunting song sees Bruce sing highly-affecting lines like “Some say is freedom is free/ But I tend to disagree/ I say freedom is won/ With the blood of someone's son” over a plaintive beat.

‘Freedom Cadence’ echoes the themes of Thank You for Your Service, which tells the story of soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who are trying to adjust to normal life after returning from conflict in Iraq.

Based on the book of the same name by David Finkel, the film was directed by Jason Hall and stars Miles Teller, Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale, Amy Schumer and Scott Haze. The movie hits UK cinemas on Friday 17th November.

Bruce recorded ‘Freedom Cadence’ at his Stone Hill Studio in New Jersey and it features Adam Schumann – the real-life subject of Thank You for Your Service – and the movie’s producer Jon Kilik on backing vocals.

Bruce opening his sprawling ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ residency at the 960 capacity Walter Kerr Theatre on 3rd October and it continues through to February 2018.
