Long-term Marillion keyboardist Mark Kelly has launched a brand-new solo project called Marathon.

Mark Kelly’s Marathon will release their self-titled debut album ‘Mark Kelly’s Marathon’ on Friday 27th November 2020 via esteemed imprint earMUSIC.

The Dublin-born musician will stay true to his progressive rock roots with his new venture, which has been in the pipeline for three decades.

Alongside the eponymous band lynchpin, Mark Kelly’s Marathon also features Guy Vickers, Oliver M. Smith (vocalist), Pete “Woody” Wood (guitar,) John Cordy (guitar), Henry Rogers (drums) and his Mark’s nephew Conal Kelly (bass).

Additionally, Mark’s Marillion band mate Steve Rothery performs lead guitar on the album track ‘Puppets.’

The project was officially announced at the Marillion Couch Convention last weekend, and Mark Kelly’s Marathon have premiered the first tantalising taster for the album; the nine-and-a-half-minute progressive rock gem ‘Amelia’.

The ‘Amelia’ video was filmed at Real World Studios, which is owned by fellow progressive rock icon Peter Gabriel.

Mark Kelly joined Marillion as a fresh-faced 20-year-old in 1981 and has contributed to every single one of their studio albums.
