NASA injects Metallica's 'Fuel' into video for their first crewed moon mission in 52 years

NASA have premiered a new video promoting their 2024 NASA Artemis lunar mission that’s soundtracked by Metallica’s 1997 anthem ‘Fuel.’

In November 2024, NASA will launch the Artemis 2 flyby of the moon, marking humanity's first return to the lunar body since the Apollo 17 mission way back in 1972.

NASA successfully launched the Artemis 1 un-crewed Moon-orbiting mission in November 2022, and four astronauts will take place in the mission next year.

Sharing their new 42-second teaser yesterday (13th July), featuring footage from the Artemis 1 launch and the crew for the Artemis 2 mission, NASA wrote: “Give me that which I desire. This #InternationalDayofRock, @Metallica is adding ‘Fuel’ to the fire of our #Artemis missions to the Moon.”

Metallica themselves also shared the clip, writing: “What do we have in common with @NASA’s #Artemis missions to the Moon? ‘Fuel’ & fire!”

Metallica have also premiered the full trailer for their cinema screening ‘Metallica: M72 World Tour Live from Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event.’

The two concerts will be screened at UK cinemas on Saturday 19th (Friday’s concert) and Monday 21st August (Sunday’s concert).

The new trailer collates footage from the first leg of the M72 World Tour in Europe this summer, which also included two headline slots at Download Festival.
