Ulaanbaatar’s prodigal sons, The HU, have unleashed their Mongolian language cover of Metallica’s 1991 anthem ‘Sad But True’.

The unique interpretation of The Black Album classic sees the quartet fuse traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat-singing sung in their native language to startling effect - the guttural growls perfectly compliment the deliciously heavy music.

Commenting on the Metallica cover, HU singer and Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle) player Galbadrakh Tsendbaatar, a.k.a Gala, said: "Like millions of people around the world, Metallica has been a huge influence and inspiration for us as music fans and musicians.

“We admire their 40 years of relentless touring and the timeless, unique music they have created. It is a great honour to show them our respect and gratitude by recording a version of 'Sad But True' in our language and in the style of The HU."

The HU’s cover of ‘Sad But True’ is the inaugural release from "The Best of Better Noise Music: 15 Years of Rock" series, which runs throughout 2021 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of record label Better Noise Music.

The imprint is also home to Bad Wolves, Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Sixx:A.M., All That Remains, Escape The Fate, In Flames and many more.

The HU was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by their producer Dashka, along with band members Gala, Jaya, Temka, and Enkush.

Together they create rock music with traditional Mongolian instrumentation such as the aforementioned Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp), guttural throat singing built around the pillars of heavy rock: distorted guitars, bombastic drums, and aggressive rhythms.

All four members have earned Bachelor’s or higher degrees in classical music and have gained several years of touring experience throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim.

As part of their 2019 world tour, The HU rocked The Dogtooth Stage at Download Festival in 2019.

The HU’s cover of ‘Sad But True’ is the second incredible Metallica cover in as many weeks. Two weeks ago, Diamond Head unleashed a phenomenal cover of the Kill ‘Em All track ‘No Remorse’.
