Ones To Watch: Greybeards

The 23rd band to take centre stage in our weekly Ones To Watch feature are energetic Swedish rockers Greybeards.

Greybeards are Olle Westlund (vocals, guitar), Ingemar MÃ¥rtensson (guitar), Simon Mojtahedi (bass) and Niklas Nironen (drums).

Formed six years ago in the Swedish city of Gävle, decidedly fresh-faced (and almost beardless) quartet Greybeards play robust rock music that fuses instantly infectious melodies with dynamic grooves and dexterous musicianship.

A heady and exuberant live force, since their inception they’ve built up a loyal following on home turf and incessantly toured Europe and as far flung as China with their debut album ‘Longing to Fly’. However, with their upcoming second long-player 'For The Wilder Minds' primed to be unleashed later this spring, they’re now ready to kick their career to the next level.

Released on Friday 4th May via Attitude Recordings, the 10-track record is described as ‘brimming with killer atmospheric songs’ that have ‘an alternative vibe and steroid infused pop licks’, and lead single / album opener ‘Fast Asleep’ hints at promising things. Not just a solid tune, it packs a lyrical punch commenting on how people are increasingly consumed by technology and live their lives vicariously through digital screens.

The band comment: "The album kicks off with a thought about the state of our digitalised world. We live through our alter-egos online, even though we are born as thriving individuals, but seemingly dedicate our lives to create an idea of what we could be..."
