Ones To Watch: Piston

The 54th band stepping into the limelight in our Ones To Watch feature are Midlands rock juggernauts Piston.

Author: Scott ColothanPublished 13th Mar 2019

Piston are: Rob Angelico (lead vocals), Luke Allat (guitar), Jack Edwards (guitar), Brad Newlands (drums) and Stuart Egan (bass).

Hailing from sunny Cannock in Staffordshire, some Planet Rock listeners are no doubt well acquainted with the beguiling sounds of Piston by now. The five-piece’s rip-roaring single 'Leave If You Dare' picked up regular spins on our airwaves more than half-a-decade ago and then last month, Piston returned to the fore all guns blazing with their Romesh Dodangoda (Motörhead, Bring Me The Horizon, Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons) produced single ‘One More Day’.

A searing, instantly infectious anthem, 'One More Day’ is custom-built to consume vast venues and, as well as landing a hefty musical punch, it’s packed with weighty and thought-provoking lyrics too. As vocalist Rob Angelico explains: “One More Day is about learning to trust in the natural progression of life. We can't turn back time here, we can only progress and move forward. We always have another day to find the light.”

Having performed with artists including The Temperance Movement and Sebastian Bach throughout their career - as well as rocking Planet Rockstock in 2017 – Piston play a quartet of headline shows this month starting at London’s The Big Red on Thursday night (14th March). The shows will whet the appetite nicely ahead of the release of Piston’s as-yet-untitled debut album, which will be unleashed later this year.

Piston say: "We are all really looking forward to getting back out on the road again, catching up with the fans and playing them a bunch of new songs! It has been almost six years since our last release, and it has been one hell of a journey. We recorded a whole album and scrapped it and re-sculpted our sound. 2019, is the year for Piston!”
