Phil Campbell joins Scorpions for cover of Motörhead's 'Overkill' in tribute to Lemmy

Scorpions invited Phil Campbell on stage for a very special performance of Motörhead’s ‘Overkill’ at Rock Fest Barcelona on Saturday (7th July).

The 1978 Motörhead classic is a regular staple of the German hard rockers’ sets, however the performance in Barcelona had extra poignancy when Phil Campbell joined Scorpions, including of course Phil’s former band mate Mikkey Dee, on stage.

After Phil flipped his middle fingers to huge cheers from the crowd, Klaus Meine said: “We shared the stage so many times and what can I say, it’s about (paying) respects to a dear friend, the late Lemmy.”

Scorpions and Phil then blasted out ‘Overkill’ with images of Lemmy flashing up on the backdrop. Watch fan-filmed footage of the performance here:

Afterwards, Phil, who had also performed earlier in the day with his Bastard Sons, took to Twitter to share a photo with Mikkey Dee backstage.

He wrote: “Had an amazing day playing @bcnrockfest with @PCATBS. It was also a great honour to be invited onstage to play Overkill with @scorpions & of course being reunited with @themikkeydee & half of the old @myMotorhead crew. Big thanks to the @scorpions crew too for being amazing!”
