Pink Floyd tease Battersea Power Station event
The prog legends have got something planned...
This afternoon (Friday 23rd September), legendary prog rock titans Pink Floyd posted the cover of their recently released Animals 2018 Remix album on social media channels with a cryptic message.
Enigmatically, the band wrote: "To mark the release of Pink Floyd's Animals 2018 Remix, London's Battersea Power Station will be an eminently suitable canvas next Wednesday and Thursday, between 8:30pm - 11pm
They added that there will be "a sneak preview on Tuesday night at the same time, as a test run..."
The dates of the unnamed event are Tuesday 27th September (preview), Wednesday 28th September and Thursday 29th September 2022.
No further details have been released as of writing, but the wording "suitable canvas" potentially hints at some sort of projection or light show.
The band have been teasing activity around the release of the new album for some time, most recently posting a photo of the original inflatable pig with the copy "Getting ready..."
Pink Floyd's original 1977 masterpiece 'Animals' has one of the most iconic album covers of all time, with its surreal image of the inflatable pig (nicknamed "Algie") floating between the smoking chimneys of London's towering Battersea Power Station.
Famously, the original pig was a 40ft inflatable that was hoisted above the landmark. Chaos ensued when on the second day of the photoshoot, the marksman who had been hired to shoot it if it broke loose didn't show up (as no one had told him to return) and the pig broke loose in a gust of wind.
The giant sow (subsequent pigs used by Floyd have been males and females) disappeared into the clouds and was next spotted by airline pilots at 30,000ft. Flights at Heathrow Airport were cancelled as the pig roamed through flight paths, before finally landing in a farmer's field in Kent, where it frightened a herd of cows.
As the name suggests, the Animals 2018 Remix album has been delayed for the last 4 years due to "a dispute over some sleeve notes" between Roger Waters and David Gilmour.
The release date was finally confirmed in June 2022, alongside the bleak new artwork showing a pig floating above the gloomy remains of Battersea Power Station, surrounded by tower cranes.
Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Nick Mason reunited in April 2022 to release their first new music in 28 years, a charity single 'Hey Hey Rise Up'. Proceeds from the song go to the Ukranian humanitarian effort following Russia's shocking invasion of Ukraine.
In other Pink Floyd news, Roger Waters today announced three UK farewell tour dates, which will see him play in Birmingham, London and Glasgow in May and June 2023.
