With their mind-blowing Stadium Tour put on hold last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rammstein have confirmed they’ve kept themselves busy by recording a new album.

Rumours of new music from the German sextet first surfaced last September when members of Rammstein and their crew were spotted at La Fabrique Studios in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where they recorded their untitled 2019 album.

Adding gravitas to the speculation, drummer Christoph Schneider posted a photo of himself on Instagram at Parc national des Calanques in Southern France, which is just down the road from the studios.

In October, the band announced fresh musical activity when Rammstein posted two photos from La Fabrique Studios alongside the caption: “Sadly no tour this year - but it’s great to be back in the studio!”

Now, in an interview with Motor.de, keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz has revealed that Rammstein have recorded the album.

"The fact that we couldn't perform live increased our creativity,” Flake said (via Blabbermouth). “We had more time to think of new things and less distraction. As a result, we recorded an album that we hadn't planned on."

Last May, Rammstein postponed their planned 2020 stadium shows at Belfast Boucher Road Playing Fields, Cardiff Principality Stadium and Coventry Ricoh Arena until June 2021.

The band’s European tour is also due to call in at Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and, of course, Rammstein’s native Germany.

Rammstein’s untitled 2019 album – their first record in a decade - spawned the singles ‘Deutschland’, ‘Radio’ and ‘Ausländer’, and it peaked at no.3 on the UK album chart.

Rammstein's incredible pyrotechnics through the years:

Rammstein's pyro through the years

Rammstein's frontman and resident pyromaniac, Till Lindemann, wore a flaming silver coat at the band's early shows. Here he is on stage in Berlin in 1996.

Even when they played smaller stages, this did little to quell Rammstein's insatiable appetite for fire. Here's a shirtless Till Lindemann swinging two Catherine wheel-like fireworks at the Palace in Los Angeles in 1998.

Rammstein's trademark flamethrowers have also been a mainstay of their live shows for decades. Here's Till Lindemann at Australia's Big Day Out Festival in 2001.

Although Till Lindemann is undoubtedly the biggest pyromaniac, Rammstein's pyro isn't just limited to the frontman – here's Richard Z. Kruspe shooting flames from his guitar in the early noughties.
