Artists become eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first single or album.

“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture,” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes said.

“Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

Seven artists - Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, and A Tribe Called Quest – are on the Rock Hall ballot for the first time, while Eminem is the only artist nominated in his first year of eligibility. The rapper’s debut album ‘Infinite’ was released in 1996.

MC5 have been on the shortlist six times and Rage Against The Machine have made the list four times.

Judas Priest, New York Dolls Kate Bush, Devo, Eurythmics, will all be hoping it’s third time lucky, while Pat Benatar, Fela Kuti, and Dionne Warwick are on the ballot for the second time.

Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry.

Factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are all taken into consideration.

Fans can also vote on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's website - the “fan's ballot" will count as one of the 1,000+ ballots that decide the class of 2022.

The final artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022 will be revealed in May and the ceremony will take place in the autumn.

As always, the Rock Hall lists individual band members on the ballot and Judas Priest are listed as Rob Halford, Ian Hill, Glenn Tipton and Scott Travis, plus former members K.K. Downing, Les Binks and the late Dave Holland.
