Rush vocalist, bassist and keyboardist Geddy Lee has confirmed he’s not dead after trending on Twitter.

Geddy was trending in his native Canada yesterday (8th September) and quickly took to Twitter to allay fans’ fears that it might be because he’s died.

Making light of the situation, Geddy wrote on Rush’s official Twitter account: “Even I gulped when I saw I was trending on Twitter, but I asked my dogs and apparently I’m a bit boring but otherwise fine...”

It turns out the real reason Geddy was trending was because a cardboard cut-out of the Rush legend was used in the seating area at a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game against New York Yankees. Real audiences, of course, aren’t allowed at baseball games because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Back in March 2018, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason was forced to confirm he wasn’t dead after he was listed as deceased on Google.

When fans made certain Google searches such as ‘Nick Mason’ or ‘Pink Floyd Nick Mason’ at the time, information displayed on the top of the results page showed that Nick allegedly died aged 74 in New York City on Thursday 1st March 2018.

Nick Mason's 'death'

Sharing a screenshot of his ‘online death’, Nick Mason quipped: “Recent reports of my passing have been greatly exaggerated...... i think?”

Last month, Rush’s Geddy Lee was among the plethora of rock stars who paid tribute to late UFO bassist Pete Way.

Geddy wrote: “I have so many fond and hilarious memories of touring with Pete and UFO back in the 80’s. A true rock & roll character, always "takin' the piss" as they would say in his homeland.”
