Yorkshire heavy metal juggernauts Saxon have premiered the latest taster of their 24th studio album 'Hell, Fire and Damnation', the alien and UFO themed anthem ‘There’s Something in Roswell.’

As the title reveals, the track is about the conspiracy theories surrounding the 1947 crash of an alleged United States Army Air Forces balloon, near Roswell, New Mexico. The event became known as 'the Roswell incident.'

Amidst thunderous music and crushing duel riffs from Brian Tatler and Doug Scarratt, Biff Byford spouts lyrics that very much embrace the belief that aliens crashed down to earth.

Commenting on the track, Biff says: “It’s such a great story. It’s been around for years and years, and it’s just what the song says: there must be something in Roswell because there’s too much hoorah about it still.

“I like the tune as well, I think it harks back to ‘80s Saxon musically, a really good bridge between the classic ‘Dallas 1 PM’ era and ‘Saxon 2023.’”

‘There’s Something In Roswell’ follows the single and album title track 'Hell, Fire and Damnation', which is currently on heavy rotation on Planet Rock’s airwaves.

The album ‘Hell, Fire and Damnation’ is Saxon’s first studio effort to feature guitars from Diamond Head leader Brian Tatler, who has been performing with Saxon since Paul Quinn stepped away from touring duties in spring 2023.

The record was produced by Biff Byford and Judas Priest studio wizard and touring member Andy Sneap, who was also on mixing and mastering duties.

Reflecting on the album title, Biff says: “I’ve had that saying in my head since I was a small boy because my dad used to say it when he was upset.

“He used to say, ‘Hell, fire, and damnation, what’s tha’ been doing now?!’ when I was ‘messing up his cabbage patch’ or carving things into the kitchen table. It was a very ‘Yorkshire’ saying back in the day.”

Other historical themes explored on the album include Marie Antoinette, Kubla Khan, the Battle of Hastings and the Salem witch trials.

Saxon follow the release of ‘Hell, Fire and Damnation’ by supporting Judas Priest on their UK and European arena tour in the spring.
