In a newly published interview with Headbangers Lifestyle (which was originally conducted late last year), Schenker said the German hard rock legends have joined forces with a “famous” producer and he also credited former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee with sparking their creativity.

"Why we have this idea of recording a new album is because Mikkey (Dee) became, let's say, a great force for Scorpions," Rudolf said.

"When we were fighting for a change and (trying to) get us back on track with the band, and it didn't work, we found Mikkey. Mikkey just fits perfectly into the chemistry of Scorpions. Plus, he is a very creative person. That means we have now the chance to make an album that is special and fresh.”

Rudolf continued: "We will meet again in the New Year (2019) and everybody will come and bring in ideas in the studio.

“We already found a producer to record with. A famous and well-known personality… No, I'm not gonna say who he is… really not! But we are all very excited to produce a new, historic rock 'n' roll album."

Scorpions singer Klaus Meine first revealed last August that the band were formulating plans for the follow-up to February 2015’s ‘Return to Forever’.

“I think we might be ready next year, at least to go back and come together and start songwriting, and let's see what comes out,” he told SiriusXM. He also said the record would have a “harder edge” than their previous effort.

Scorpions headline the Ronnie James Dio Stage at Bloodstock Open Air on Sunday 11th August. Tickets are available from Planet Rock Tickets now.
