Little Steven has signed up to star, co-produce and co-write a brand new Norwegian police crime thriller TV series entitled 'Lilyhammer.'

As an actor Van Zandt is best known as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. Speaking from Norway, he recently told the Daily Record: "The Sopranos was one of those things. We had a really good run and you couldn't be too sad about it. I mean, we did seven seasons in 10 years and 10 years is a big chunk of your life.

"It was probably time to move on. I wouldn't have, of course. I would have played that gangster for the rest of my life. I loved that character. In fact, I loved it so much, I took this other job playing a gangster here in Norway."

Van Zandt explained the outline of his character.

"I play a New York gangster who goes into the witness protection program and chooses Lillehammer, Norway," he said. "It was such a good idea because Norway is a very straight place. It is a real monoculture of five million people.

"I became one of the writers and one of the producers and I am the lead actor in this crazy Norwegian show where everybody speaks Norwegian except me."
