Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks 'devastated' to cancel 2021 tour dates
She cites rising Covid cases as the reason
Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has cancelled her five US shows planned for 2021 due to the rising number of Covid cases Stateside.
The 73-year-old music legend had been scheduled to play events including California’s BottleRock Festival, Austin City Limits in Texas and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, however she issued a statement on Twitter last night (10th August) confirming she won’t be playing live this year.
“These are challenging times with challenging decisions that have to be made,” Stevie Nicks wrote. “I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising Covid cases should be of concern to all of us.”
The United States is currently averaging over 100,000 Covid-19 cases a day largely due to the Delta variant of the virus.
Stevie Nicks’ statement continues: “While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the 5 performances I had planned for 2021.
“Because singing and performing have been my whole life, my primary goal is to keep healthy so I can continue singing for the next decade or longer.
“I’m devastated and I know the fans are disappointed, but we will look towards a brighter 2022.”
In an emotional 600-word journal entry one year ago, Stevie Nicks expressed her fears that she may never sing again if she gets Covid-19.
Earlier this week, former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham said he’s open to returning to Fleetwood Mac if Stevie Nicks allows it.
Confirming that Mick Fleetwood has spoken about his Fleetwood Mac return, Lindsey said: "Mick — he didn't want to see me go in the first place — but he's talking about that.
"I would never hang my hat on that. It's really going to take Stevie (Nicks) coming to that point of view, and I haven't spoken to Stevie in a long, long time, so I don't know where that's at.”
