Stevie Nicks confirms Fleetwood Mac are over following Christine McVie's death
There's 'no reason' to reunite, she insists
Stevie Nicks has insisted there’s “no reason” for Fleetwood Mac to reunite following Christine McVie’s death last November.
At The Grammy Awards in February, Fleetwood Mac drummer and founder Mick Fleetwood said he believed the legendary band were “done” in the wake of McVie’s passing aged 79.
A few months later, touring guitarist Mike Campbell also cast doubt on the future of Fleetwood Mac, saying: “I don’t really see that ship leaving the port again.”
In a new interview with The Vulture, Stevie Nicks was asked if she could ever envision a scenario where Fleetwood Mac can ever tour again.
“We did go out on the road and do a year-and-a-half tour with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell,” Nicks replied. “We had a really great time and it was a huge tour. That was there in the realm of possibility.
“But when Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.
“When I think about Taylor Swift’s song ‘You’re on Your Own, Kid’ and the line ‘you always have been,’ it was like, that was Christine and I. We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other.
“Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.”
Fleetwood Mac’s last global tour, An Evening with Fleetwood Mac, took place in 2018 and 2019 and included two nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Since their inception in London in 1967 the various incarnations of Fleetwood Mac released 18 studio albums and sold more than 120 million records worldwide. 1977’s ‘Rumours’ has shifted more than 40 million units alone and continues to appear on charts across the globe.
Christine McVie’s last show was at the Peter Green Tribute Concert at the London Palladium in February 2020.

Stevie Nicks announced on stage at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night (1st October) that she was being immortalised in plastic as a Barbie doll.
