Sunday at Download Festival 2022 – Planet Rock roundup

Following the scintillating highs of yesterday, including Iron Maiden’s typically epic headline set, Day 3 at Download Festival opened with blue skies yet again and another epic line-up.

Wargasm were first up on The Apex Stage and they blew away any of the audience's lingering cobwebs with their riotous electro-punk sounds.

The first visitors to the Planet Rock tent backstage were frontman Michael Starr and drummer Stix Zadinia from The Opus Stage headliners Steel Panther who chewed the fat with Wyatt in their idiosyncratic comedic style.

Flanked by their trademark giant inflatable yellow duck, Scottish pirate metallers Alestorm drew a huge Sunday afternoon crowd on The Apex Stage:

"When I say keema, you say naan!" shouted Baz Mills as the mighty Massive Wagons performed a barnstorming set on The Opus Stage.

The Darkness' Justin Hawkins and Rufus Tiger Taylor backstage with Wyatt ahead of their performance on The Opus Stage. Hawkins spoke to Wyatt about "how nobody wants to hear new stuff" at festivals - basically the opposite of what Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith told us last night.

Bimini wore a fetching Princess Diana dress on The Dogtooth Stage for their first ever festival performance. The set included covers of The Prodigy's 'Breathe', Britney Spears' 'Toxic' and Girls Aloud's 'No Good Advice'. Eclectic.

Easily one of the loudest Apex Stage bands of the entire weekend, Korn bombarded the audience with an onslaught of hits including 'Falling Away From Me', 'Freak on a Leash' and a bagpipe-tastic 'Shoots and Ladders.'

Boasting a mightily impressive multi-tiered stage setup, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro played an anthem packed headline set that, final song aside, got satisfyingly heavier as it progressed.

The 20-song set culminated with a lighters-in-the-air rendition of ‘Many of Horror’ alongside the trademark Download Festival fireworks finale!

Over on The Dogtooth Stage, Myles Kennedy performed his second set of the weekend in front of a rammed-to-the-rafters-crowd.
