Ahead of the now traditional ‘doodle’ part of Metallica’s set where Kirk and Rob cover of a track by a local music act, Rob told the Telenor Arena in Oslo: “Try and guess what this is. If you know it, sing it. Remember this is fun, it’s a party! Come on Kirk give it to me.”

With Kirk playing the instantly recognisable ‘Take On Me’ hook, Robert sang Morten Harket’s vocals to huge cheers from the capacity crowd.

Following the two-minute version of ‘Take On Me’, Rob then launched into a version of Cliff Burton’s iconic ‘Kill 'Em All’ bass solo ‘(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth’.

On the UK leg of the WorldWired Tour last October, Kirk and Rob covered The Clash’s ‘London Calling’, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’, Iron Maiden’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and Motörhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’ at the two London O2 Arena shows.

The Glasgow SSE Hydro show saw them take on Nazareth’s ‘Hair of the Dog’, at Manchester Arena they played Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and Birmingham’s Genting Arena featured a cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’.

The current European leg of the WorldWired Tour wraps up with two dates at Helsinki’s Hartwall Arena next week. The metal legends then kick off an extensive North American arena tour in September that continues through to March 2019.
