In front of tens of thousands of fans at Ultra Music Festival in Miami on Saturday night (30th March), Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren kicked off his headline set on the Live Arena Stage with his recent remix of Van Halen’s 1984 classic ‘Jump’.

Wearing a sparkly blue jacket, Diamond Dave was on stage for MC duties and introduced Van Buuren by saying “Ladies and gentlemen, give it away for Armin Van Buuren! I think we know each other, are you ready to jump?! Here we go!”

Dave continued to get the crowd going with lines like “are you ready for getting down?!”, “let me see your hands!” and “are you ready for a little boom in the room?!” as the remix kicked in.

Standing in the vast DJ booth with Van Buuren, Dave also flaunted his dancing skills by pirouetting around as he continued to get the vast crowd pumped.

You can watch the entire performance, which takes place within the first five minutes of Van Buuren’s set, here:

When asked about the remix by Rolling Stone, Van Buuren said: “I didn’t change the song too much. We recreated the Oberheim synth that was in the original. I just completely replayed it with respect to the original obviously. And the original track is not in time, so I had to spend a lot of time putting all of the original stems onto a click.”

Asked if he was aware of Van Buuren’s work before the remix, Dave said: “Of course. I know all or most of his work. You wanna really go back? Van Halen’s based as much on European music hall, old-school Vaudevillian entertainment as rock. That’s where Freddie Mercury and Bowie came from. If you look under the hood, you’re gonna find a European engine in Van Halen. It adds up perfectly.”

Last December, Dave said Van Halen’s return to the stage was “just around the corner”.

Dropping by Vulture magazine’s New York offices, Dave first cryptically hinted at Van Halen’s reunion when he told fans gathered to meet him: “When we come back through town in the summer time and do the original thing, maybe somewhere sporting, maybe with somebody famous, I’ll make sure we get you all tickets so you can see what we do for gainful employment. My mom still wonders.”

During the wide-ranging chat with Vulture, Dave suggested Van Halen are lining up a stadium tour by saying "my rock band will be playing the same place that the Yankees play (the Yankee Stadium)."

Pushed for more information, Dave was a bit more reticent in his response, saying: "Yeah, but I can’t … If I say something on tape here and everybody goes, 'Oh, this leaked…' But, the band will be — I can’t say."
