Mark Kermode highlights films in the upcoming AMPLIFY! festival

Falling, Luxor and Rose Plays Julie feature in Kermode's Scala Radio Triple Bill

Mark Kermode’s Triple Bill last weekend highlighted three soundtracks from films which feature in the forthcoming AMPLIFY! Film Festival.

AMPLIFY! is a unique collaboration that we’ve partnered with between four of the UK’s largest film festivals – a virtual response to the challenges imposed by the ongoing global pandemic. The festival runs online from 6th to 22nd November.

On his Scala Radio show on Saturday (24th October), Mark Kermode’s Triple Bill played three tracks all featuring in the festival.

Comprised of the Bath, Brighton (Cinecity), Cambridge and Cornwall Film Festivals, which would normally be taking place this time of year, AMPLIFY! has brought these organisations together with programme highlights including: Mortensen’s Luxor starring Andrea Riseborough, Interdependence – a captivating anthology of 11 short films that humanise the climate crisis, and German Expressionist horror film Waxworks.

On his Scala Radio show on Saturday (24th October), Mark Kermode’s Triple Bill highlighted three tracks, which will all feature in this year’s AMPLIFY! Film Festival.

First up Reflection by Howard Shore from the film A Dangerous Method. This film is one of several collaborations between David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen. Falling, which is Viggo’s directorial debut will have its UK premiere at Amplify! It even features a cameo from Cronenberg. As Mark Kermode describes, it’s ‘very fitting’.

The second track we heard comes from the film Luxor. The track Old Love is by Nascuy Linares who also composed music for Embrace of the Serpent.

The final instalment was Mother from the film Rose Plays Julie. This is not the first of the films by the directing duo Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor that Stephen McKeon has composed for. McKeon has also composed the soundtrack for one of Mark Kermode’s favourite films, Mister John.

All films will be shown at the forthcoming online AMPLIFY! Film Festival.
