Composer writes touching tribute to violinist Corinne Chapelle who died of cancer in March
Musicians had crowdfunded Corinne's cancer treatment
A Grammy-nominated violinist who was diagnosed with cancer before crowdfunded treatment could begin is the inspiration behind a tribute written by composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.
When Corinne Chapelle was diagnosed with cancer last year during the pandemic musician friends of hers rallied round to raise funds for her only hope: a treatment not available in the U.K. The crowdfunded campaign succeeded in raising £171,000 (of the £300,000 required) but the treatment started too late. Corinne Chapelle died in March 2021.
Undeterred, her musician friends - former students at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey - vowed to honour Corinne’s memory by performing a musical tribute penned by composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.
Corrine’s Song was released today on YouTube and features 50 Menuhin School alumni including Nicola Benedetti, Alina Ibragimova and Alexander Sitkovetsky.
