Andrew Mantle from Caerphilly Music Service (Sunday 4 April 2021)

David Lewis from Caerphilly wrote to Angellica to nominate Andrew Mantle as Music Teacher of the Week, who is employed by Caerphilly County Music Service.

Andrew visits many schools in the county including the Aberbargoed Primary School where he teaches singing and ukelele to several classes.

When the country went into lockdown in March 2020 Caerphilly Music Service managed to establish a key worker childcare hub in a few hours and opened fully on the first Tuesday of that lockdown.

Andrew volunteered his services at the childcare hub holding a number of music and singing workshops each week for children of all ages.

When schools were able to re-open again last summer Andrew quickly re-established his part of the music education programme at Caerphilly.

Andrew is one of many thousands of school staff who have made the last year a less stressful and anxious time for the children of Caerphilly in what will have been their most difficult school year.

Christopher Wray (Sunday 28 March 2021)

On Sunday 28 March Angellica spoke to music teacher Christopher Wray, adept playing both cello and tuba, Christopher went on to read music at Trinity College of Music, graduating with a first-class degree in Music Performance. He was awarded the Vocal Department Gold Medal for his work within the department in his final year.

He's sung in all the major concert venues in and around London including the Royal Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre and the Barbican.

Christopher works as a vocal consultant and as an outreach worker for SingUp, Many Voices Foundation and as an advisory teacher for Greater London Local Authorities where his work involved training non-specialist teachers to deliver singing and music lessons. He's a passionate advocate of music in the South West London area and was the founder of Fulham Camerata, Fulham Children’s Choir and Musical Director of Fulham and Hammersmith Choral Society. Currently, he works at Surbiton High School where he conducts 16 choirs a week!
