Saxophonist Jess Gillam and horn player Sarah Willis receive MBEs for services to music

Other renowned musicians including Imogen Cooper and Julian Lloyd Webber are also recognised in the Queens Birthday Honours List 2021

Saxophist Jess Gillam has received an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours revealed yesterday. Responding to the announcement on Instagram, the musician and presenter said,

"I feel extremely touched to receive this award, especially in a year where so many people have done such incredible and selfless things.

"It’s very unexpected and a complete surprise - I’m very grateful to all of those who have supported me and to have had the opportunity to learn an instrument in the first place. Music has changed my life and I‘m passionate about sharing its magic with other people!"

Other musicians who received awards in the Queen's Birthday Honours this year included cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, pianist Imogen Cooper, and pianist, composer Huw Watkins, and singer songwriter Alison Moyet. Scala Radio friend Rick Wakeman was appointed CBE.

Also included on the list was British horn player (who participated in Scala Radio's Second Birthday Celebrations this year) Sarah Willis.

And there were congratulations too for Scala Radio's very own Simon Mayo who was also awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting.
