What's better than music for cello by Bach and Saint-Saens? Combining the two together.

That's what cellists Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Sebastian Comberti have done in a touching 'mashup' of the two melodies recorded earlier this month at Croydon's Fairfields Halls. The arrangement was created by Sebastian Comberti.

The video is premiered on YouTube at 10.00am on Tuesday 29 June.

It's part of the London Mozart Players new series ‘Spotlight On…’ that starts this week with the release Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s blistering performance of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B Minor, filmed in front of a socially-distanced audience at Fairfield Halls at the beginning of June. The film is available to view online via the London Mozart Players website for 30 days until 24 July.

The series continues on 9 July with Isata Kanneh-Mason playing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 alongside LMP’s performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 under the baton of Stephanie Childress, filmed at Cadogan Hall on 26 June.

Concert three sees LMP returning to its home at Fairfield Halls with star saxophonoist Jess Gillam and conductor Jonathan Bloxham. Jess plays Glazunov’s Concerto for Saxophone and Strings and Nyman’s ‘Where the Bee Dances’, and LMP performs Mozart’s ‘Haffner’ Symphony No. 35. The 24 June concert was filmed for release on the LMP website on 15 September. Both Isata’s and Jess’s concerts were filmed in front of socially-distanced audiences.

The final concert in the series will showcase the prodigious talents of 14-year-old violinist Leia Zhu, who is destined for a stellar career. She will play Tchaikovsky’s lyrical and expressive Violin Concerto in D. The live concert at Fairfield Halls with conductor Gerard Korsten on 9 October will be filmed for a 19 October online release.

The films will be available to watch for 30 days from first broadcast via the LMP website www.londonmozartplayers.com, with individual concert tickets (per household) at £10. A 4-concert package is also available until 24 July: £30 (four concerts for the price of three).
