Onutė Gražinytė joins Angellica Bell on Scala Radio on Saturday 26 September 2020

At only a relatively young age Lithuanian pianist Onutė Gražinytėhas already made a bit of a splash in her native Lithuania. Last year participating in the eighth International Ciurlionis Piano Competition 2019 with a captivating programme including Beethoven’s twelfth piano sonata and Rachmaninoff’s epic Etude No. 1 in C minor.

She is also Angellica Bell’s Young Artist of the Week this weekend. Hear her in conversation with Angellica from 7am on Saturday 26 September 2020.

Onutė's musicianship is rooted in her background. Born to a family of musicians in 1996 in Vilnius, Lithunia, she sharted studying piano at five years-old. One year later she started studies at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art.

Since graduating in 2015 she’s continued her musical development under the tutelage of Roland Krüger at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. She is a scholarship student of Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now” Hannover.

As a soloist O. Gražinytė has appeared with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Kaunas Symphony Orchestra, Alicante University Philharmonic Orchestra, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and National Orchestra of Lyon.

She has recorded music by Arvo Pärt with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra on an album entitled Lamentate. If you’re looking for a mix of drama and mindfulness, we recommend the first four tracks of the album alone.
