Arbroath Infirmary ward closed to new admissions due to flu cases

A hospital medical unit has been closed to new admissions because a “small number” of patients have the flu.
Bosses at Arbroath Infirmary in Angus said patients in the ward are being monitored and measures are in place to control the spread of the influenza A virus.
They are also asking people to avoid visiting, if possible, to help reduce the spread of infection.
Anybody who suspects they could have the flu is being asked not to visit their friends and relatives until they are better.
The number of patients struck by the illness has not been released by NHS Tayside, which confirmed the ward was shut to new admissions on Friday evening.
A health board spokeswoman said: “The medical unit remains closed and enhanced infection control precautions are in place.”
Flu, which is especially common in winter, is an infectious and common viral illness spread by coughs and sneezes.
Symptoms include a sudden high temperature, headaches, general aches and pains, tiredness and a sore throat
