An Ardrossan mum's warning other parents to be wary of letting their kids play on the beach barefoot, after her young daughter ended up with an infected toe.

Amyleigh Cavanagh's 18-month-old Aria was left needing surgery after a trip to the town's beach.

At one stage doctors suspected Aria had septicemia, with the youngster suffering a fit.

Amyleigh said: "I didn't think about letting them play in the sand. I never, ever thought anything like that could happen.

"Doctors said something as simple as a tiny cut, some dirt from the beach could've caused it.

"Something so small could have caused that big infection, so I'm never letting my kids leave the house without shoes on again."
