For the first time in two weeks, Dundee doesn't have the highest covid infection rate in Scotland.

There's been a 20% drop in cases over the last week, with 1,049 cases reported in the most recent seven day period.

Midlothian's now reporting the highest seven day positive results per 100,000 people at 709.5, compared to 702.5 in the City of Discovery.

Public Health expert professor Linda Bauld says she's surprised at the time it's taken for cases in Dundee to drop.

"Dundee's a relatively young city. You've got lots of people who've either had one dose or no vaccines and they can transmit the virus between them," she said.

"It took longer than expected for cases to reduce. Midlothian now has more cases per 100,000 than Dundee so lets hope that decline continues.

"The worrying thing is that more people are in hospital in Tayside, those services are under real strain."

The test positivity rate in the city now stands at 15.8%.

It's as the First Minister will confirm tomorrow whether or not Scotland will move into Level 0 on 19 July as planned.

Last Friday Nicola Sturgeon said she was "more optimistic" than before in taking the decision.
