Elderly woman dies at Perth swimming pool

The 71 year-old was pronounced dead at the scene

An elderly woman has died at Perth Leisure Pool after reports she had taken unwell.

Emergency services were called to the premises on Glasgow Road around 10:55am today.

The 71 year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene and officers are not treating the death as suspicious.

On its Facebook page, Perth Leisure Pool says the facility will remained closed for the rest of Friday as a mark of respect.

The social media post reads: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that a customer has died after taking unwell at Perth Leisure Pool today, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.

“As a mark of respect Perth Leisure Pool will remain closed today. We will reopen tomorrow, Saturday 7th October at 10am.

“The gym will be open from 8am.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.55am on Friday, 6 October, 2023, we were made aware of a person having taken unwell at a premises on Glasgow Road, Perth.

“Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
