The SNP has retained its most marginal held constituency as Jim Fairlie was elected as Perthshire South and Kinross-shire MSP for the first time.

He fought off competition from Liz Smith of the Scottish Conservatives, winning by nearly 2,000 votes.

It's Mr Fairlie's first step into politics, he's best known for farming and is the brother of the late Michelin star chef Andrew Fairlie.

He told Tay News: "I'm slightly overwhelmed but absolutely delighted that the people of the constituency have their faith in me to represent all of them, whether they voted for me or not that will be my commitment.

"I will make sure I am the best MSP I can be. This was the Conservatives party's number one target seat in Scotland but we held them off and held them off well.

"I'm over the moon we have won a decisive victory and this will have ramifications going forward and I do think we are still on for a majority."
