Police urge St Andrews theft victim to come forward

Police are appealing for an elderly woman whose handbag was stolen in St Andrews earlier to come forward.

Officers want to check the lady is ok following the incident in the Fife town at around 10.55am this morning.

A 24-year-old man has since been arrested.

Inspector Martin Pattie said: “When officers attended, the woman was not at the scene and we are working to trace her as soon as possible to ensure that she is safe and well.

“We have been carrying out enquiries and checking CCTV from in and around the local area, however I would ask the woman herself, or anyone with information on her identity to contact us as soon as possible on 101 with reference number 1429 of 30 May, so that we can speak to her regarding this incident.”

The woman is described as around aged around 80 years, around 5ft in height and of slim build with short white hair. She was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt with white vertical stripes.
